Marte Engelbrecht

to the home page

Marte Engelbrecht, a nature photographer from northern Schleswig-Holstein near Flensburg, combines her passion for the sea and nature with a creative and artistic approach to photography. Her love for the sea is reflected not only in her photographs, but also in her work with driftwood, which she collects along the coasts of the North and Baltic Seas. Marte transforms these found objects into unique works of art, each telling its own story. Just as she shapes the driftwood into something new, she also uses her camera to create unique images using creative techniques.

Her photography is artistic and sometimes abstract, often playing with shapes and colors hidden in nature. A central element of her work is the ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) technique, in which she captures specific moods through longer exposures and camera movements. This approach allows her to create images that have a painterly effect, giving the impression that they have been painted with a brush rather than photographed.

An outstanding example of this is her winning image in the "Atelier Nature" category of the GDT "Nature Photographer of the Year 2024" competition, which shows a wind-sculpted tree in the brown dunes of Baltrum, Germany, which appears almost alive thanks to the camera work and impressively captures the forces of nature. The ICM technique used here gives the image an almost dreamlike quality, inviting the viewer to immerse himself in an abstract, emotional world.

For all her creativity and abstraction, Marte focuses on naturalness in her work. For her, the camera is the tool for capturing moods and scenes, not the computer. Her images are created in the moment, directly in nature, without excessive digital post-processing. This authenticity runs through all of her work, be it classic landscapes, minimalist nature studies, or her more experimental work.

As a full member of the Gesellschaft für Naturfotografie, Marte Engelbrecht has received many awards in recent years. Her work has been published by NDR and the Schleswig-Holstein newspaper, among others, and her love for nature and photography is confirmed by her success in top-class competitions. With her unique, sometimes abstract images, she expresses the essence of nature in an emotionally and artistically moving way.

10Photos says: "We are thrilled by Marte Engelbrecht's unique combination of nature photography and art. She not only knows how to document the visible world, but also how to capture its invisible forces and moods. It is this keen sense of detail and artistic understanding of form and structure that gives her images a unique, almost meditative atmosphere. She shows us not only nature as it is, but also how it feels. And it is in this interplay between reality and emotion that lies the special, almost magical effect of her photographs. They make us think and dream, touch us deeply and allow us to experience nature in a completely new, almost spiritual way. Absolutely fantastic!
